We’re creating a team of women to raise awareness around safety in running and to show what’s possible when women are empowered to run freely, confidently, and visibly. Together, we’ll train, support, and run the 2025 Kielder Marathon as a united force for change.
THE INITIATIVE
Running is one of the most accessible forms of exercise—no gym, no team, no expensive equipment required. For many, it’s a way to clear the mind, move the body, and connect with the world around them. But for many women, safety concerns make something as basic as going for a run complicated, intimidating—or even impossible.
In partnership with Boldli, a UK women’s run club, and as the title sponsor of the Kielder Marathon, Altra is launching a new initiative to raise awareness of the barriers women face while running, especially around safety.
We’re building a team of 10–12 women—runners and non-runners alike—to take on the Kielder Marathon in October 2025. Through community, training support, and storytelling, we’ll tackle the issue of running safety head-on and shine a light on real solutions.
WHAT YOU'LL RECEIVE
If selected, you'll be part of a unique journey, supported by Altra, Boldli, and Kielder.
You’ll receive:
- Entry to the 2025 Altra Kielder Marathon or Half Marathon
- Altra running kit and gear
- Access to physical & mental training support
- Invitations to group runs, training camps, and content events
- Exposure and feature opportunities across Altra, Boldli, and Kielder channels
- A chance to inspire others and help reshape the running space for women

WHAT'S EXPECTED FROM YOU
- A genuine interest in the topic of women’s safety in running
- Willingness to share your story and personal experience
- Participation in team activities (virtual or in-person, where possible)
- Commitment to training and completing the Kielder Marathon (we’ll support you every step of the way!)
- If comfortable, posting or documenting your journey on social media

- Someone who’s never run before but wants to challenge themselves
- A runner who’s been impacted by safety concerns
- Someone passionate about creating change for women in sport
